"I’ve known Dr Lois Jeremy Greene for over 30 years, and she is the most effective leader.  This is largely because her love and passion for education started at an early age and has the experience to support her theories and ideas. I think Dr Greene always finds the most authentic and creative ways to foster opportunities for discovery, self-reflection, and most importantly, growth. She will push you beyond until you have seen your true potential, and work accordingly. This, I believe, is a natural gift."

She is passionate about learning herself which I believe is one of the things that has made her such an effective educator. Ms. V. Barnes Hibbert

Bronx, NY Math Teacher

I began teaching in 2003. During the summer of 2006, I interviewed for a position as a Mathematics educator. When I first accepted the position, I never imagined that I could have met someone more excited about learning than I was. But, there was, leading the Math Department, Dr. Lois Jeremy-Greene’s passion for teaching, for teacher and student learning, and for her Antiguan foundation far exceeded mine. Dr. Greene’s passion and talents fostered a strong connection within the Mathematics department as well as the school community. It also allowed the school community to be receptive of her leadership as the Assistant Principal.

Dr. Greene loves education. Every year, she routinely included herself as instructor of class or two to keep abreast with her first love, teaching. This allowed her a first-hand understanding of what obstacles teachers and students face in the classroom. She, in turn, would use the observed data to make adjustments to leadership, teaching and learning. Dr. Greene was also always prepared to model best practices in lesson planning and teaching, even though she also planned schedules, attended meetings and completed other administrative tasks daily. Daily, Dr. Greene led by example, with wisdom and a commitment to knowledge.

Dr. Greene encouraged every teacher to use their strength when teaching. Always remembering that teachers should be learners, if Dr. Greene or I found a professional development opportunity that could benefit the students, she would encourage me to attend so as to grow. With her support, I believe that my teaching confidence increased when facilitating learning and as I increased my content knowledge and improved my teaching practice. I also know that Dr. Greene’s guidance, her practical advice and leading by example allowed me to explore new approaches to teaching and learning so as to ensure students’ understanding.

The transparency and cohesion in the Mathematics department differed from any other department to which I have been apart. Even though Dr. Greene was my supervisor, I felt able to be respectfully honest about proposed changes to structure or curriculum and the probabilities of success without being held as a foe.  In meetings, she valued everyone’s efforts and opinions. She would give the staff and students an opportunity to be heard and appreciated. I believe that it is Dr. Greene’s compassionate approach to educational leadership allowed teachers like me to make decisions, grow in our profession and cultivated a nurturing learning environment for students. Thus, I believe that Dr. Greene is unmatched in the skills required for educational leadership.

Leadership is not about controlling people and situations. Instead, it is a process of persuasion or setting an example that inspires a group to pursue goals held by the leader or shared by the leader and their followers. There are different types of leaders, each with their unique styles and qualities, but their aim is to guide their followers toward a common objective. In my educational environment, I have worked alongside my Assistant Principal, Dr. Greene, who epitomizes the term "leader". Dr. Greene's trustworthy leadership has significantly impacted my teaching career, inspiring me to pursue leadership in the future.

Building trust is crucial for leaders to connect, transform, and inspire. Dr. Greene is exceptional in this area and an expert in her field. She leads by example, and her teaching reputation, educational philosophy, routines, and attention to critical elements help run a school effectively. Her leadership skills foster positive relationships and build consensus, positively correlating with teachers' growth and development, and student achievement. Dr. Greene cultivates an effective leadership culture to successfully lead followers toward a common goal. She prides herself on helping teachers grow and develop professionally, which ultimately helps students succeed. Dr. Greene has been a true inspiration, and I hope to follow her as a future leader.
